Knowledge Discovery and Intelligent Modeling in the Context of Industry X.0

Abstract:

This presentation explores data-driven approaches for knowledge discovery and intelligent modeling in the evolving context of Industry X.0-a concept that encompasses both Industry 4.0, focused on automation, IoT, and data-driven decision-making, and Industry 5.0, which emphasizes human-centric, sustainable, and resilient industrial systems. The talk presents three representative case studies illustrating how data mining and machine learning can support the development of smart, adaptive systems. In predictive maintenance, pattern mining is used to identify frequent sequences that precede system failures in production lines, although expert interpretation remains crucial for deriving actionable insights. In the domain of inventive design, text mining techniques are applied to patents to identify TRIZ contradictions, thereby supporting cross-disciplinary innovation. Finally, for energy management, a neural regression model is introduced to predict the remaining useful life (RUL) of lithium-ion batteries based on operational usage data, contributing to improved efficiency and reliability in energy systems. Altogether, these examples demonstrate how integrating domain knowledge with advanced data-centric methods can drive innovation, reliability, and sustainability in the era of Industry X.0.

Biography:

Ahmed Samet is an Associate Professor with Habilitation (HDR) at INSA Strasbourg and a member of the Data and Knowledge Science team at the ICube Laboratory in France. He has over 10 years of experience in R&D projects, including postdoctoral research positions at the Université de Technologie de Compiègne , INRIA in France and Oxford Brookes University in the UK. His research interests focus on machine learning, data mining, and their applications in the context of Industry X.0. He also has more than 5 years of experience applying data mining and natural language processing techniques to inventive design. He currently coordinates several projects, including the Horizon Europe ENERGETIC project (2023-2026), and serves as the scientific lead of the ANR-funded XQUALITY (2023-2026) project at INSA Strasbourg. In parallel, he manages industrial collaborations with major stakeholders in the energy sector such as EDF, EIFFAGE Energy. Ahmed Samet is an elected board member of the French Association for Artificial Intelligence (AFIA), the official French branch of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI). He has served as a track chair in international conferences such as KES and actively contributes to the organization of major national AI events such as PFIA, ESIA, and others.
